2027 Mercedes-Benz GLS: Seven Seats, Three Rows, and a Cabin Built for First-Class Travel

2027 Mercedes-Benz GLS

The 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLS arrives as a thoroughly updated full-size luxury SUV — one that carries forward its well-established place at the top of the segment with deeper capability and a more sophisticated interior experience. At Mercedes-Benz Rive-Sud in Longueuil, customers across the South Shore can now explore a vehicle that seats up to seven, delivers a revised engine range with greater agility, and introduces the MB.OS operating system as the backbone of its digital architecture. From its reworked front fascia to its cloud-connected suspension system, the 2027 GLS is a vehicle that has been improved in nearly every area that matters: ride quality, in-cabin technology, driver assistance, and passenger comfort. Whether crossing the Pont Champlain or heading into the Laurentians for a weekend, this full-size SUV is built to make every kilometre feel composed and unhurried.

What’s New on the 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLS?

Exterior

The front end of the 2027 GLS carries a stronger, more structured presence than its predecessor. A redesigned front bumper and a larger radiator grille — framed in chrome with three horizontal fins, one vertical element, and a shimmering star pattern — give the vehicle an unmistakable road stance. A sleek black panel bridges the headlamps and grille into a single cohesive surface. The optional illuminated standing Mercedes-Benz star on the hood, a detail carried over from the S-Class, adds a layer of character that sets the GLS apart at night. Headlamps and taillights with integrated star design are recognizable day or night.

At the rear, a trim element with an embedded Mercedes-Benz star connects the tail lamps into one continuous flowing line, anchoring the GLS’s 205-inch length and 77-inch width visually from behind. The panoramic roof — among the largest of its kind in a production SUV at over 10.8 sq ft of glass — spans the full width and length of the roofline, with an electrically operated section that slides far back over the fixed rear panel. Two new exterior colour options, Dark Petrol and MANUFAKTUR Patagonia Red metallic, expand the palette alongside 21-inch alloy wheels and an optional 22-inch AMG multi-spoke design.

Interior

Step inside the 2027 GLS and the first thing that registers is the MBUX Superscreen — a seamless glass surface that stretches across the full width of the dashboard, housing three 12.3-inch displays beneath it. The driver display, central screen, and a standard front-passenger screen are all housed under a single unbroken panel. A new multifunction steering wheel brings a rocker switch for Distance Assist DISTRONIC and a roller switch for volume control, a change informed by direct customer input. Oval climate vents for the front row blend into the ambient lighting strips on either side. New interior choices include warm Beech Brown upholstery paired with black, as well as new trim finishes in Open-pore Dark Brown Birch Wood, Open-pore Brown Walnut Wood, and light-coloured aluminum flowing lines.

With a wheelbase of 123.4 inches — 2.4 inches longer than the GLE — the GLS offers space that genuinely scales across all three rows. Third-row seats accommodate passengers up to 6 ft 4 in tall, and all three rows are fully electrically adjustable. The electric Easy Entry function simplifies access to the third row. When cargo space takes priority, third-row seats lower flush into the floor at the touch of a button and the second row folds flat, unlocking up to 2,400 L of load space. Passengers in row three receive heated seats and USB charging ports, and optional five-zone air-conditioning provides a dedicated climate zone for that row via roof-mounted vents.

Features

Powertrain

The 2027 GLS is offered in two configurations. The GLS 450 4MATIC pairs a 3.0 L inline six-cylinder engine with an integrated starter generator to produce 375 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque, with an estimated 0–100 km/h time of 5.7 seconds. The GLS 580 4MATIC steps up to a 4.0 L V8 producing 530 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque — up from the previous 510 hp — with a 0–100 km/h estimate of 4.7 seconds. Both engines include a 48-volt electrical system that enables coasting, boost, and recuperation functions, contributing to fuel savings and near-imperceptible start-stop operation.

All GLS models come standard with 4MATIC fully variable all-wheel drive, which continuously adjusts torque distribution between front and rear axles from 0 to 100 percent based on driving conditions. For Quebec’s mix of highway travel, urban routes, and variable seasonal conditions, this system provides consistent traction across changing road surfaces. Standard AIRMATIC air suspension — now with firmer tuning and cloud-based damper regulation — uses Car-to-X data transmitted in real time from preceding Mercedes-Benz vehicles to pre-adjust damping before the GLS reaches a bump. Optional E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL on the GLS 580 4MATIC takes this further, analyzing the driving situation 1,000 times per second across five multi-core processors to independently control spring and damper forces at each wheel.

Technology

The MBUX Superscreen forms the centre of the in-cabin digital environment. Three 12.3-inch displays sit beneath a single glass panel, giving both driver and front passenger direct access to over 30 available apps covering audio, video, gaming, and a range of services. Navigation uses Google Maps technology combined with the familiar Mercedes-Benz interface. The optional MBUX Augmented Reality for Navigation overlays directional arrows and traffic information onto live camera images on the central display. An optional Augmented Navigation Head-Up Display — available in the GLS for the first time — projects lane guidance, arrows, and points of interest directly onto the driver’s line of sight. The MBUX Virtual Assistant, powered by AI including a Microsoft agent, conducts complex multi-part conversations and is represented as an always-visible avatar on the central screen. MB.OS handles all vehicle software and supports over-the-air updates.

Driver assistance is anchored by MB.DRIVE ASSIST, which is standard and includes Distance Assist DISTRONIC. An optional MB.DRIVE ASSIST PLUS package adds hands-free highway driving at speeds up to 130 km/h, along with automatic braking for stop signs and traffic lights. The parking system — MB.DRIVE PARKING ASSIST 360, standard on all models — detects spaces on both sides, supports diagonal parking, and completes maneuvers at up to 5 km/h, approximately 60 percent faster than the previous generation. The sensor suite includes ten exterior cameras, up to five radar sensors, and 12 ultrasonic sensors. ENERGIZING AIR CONTROL with a new electric cabin air filter ionizes incoming air and renews the cabin atmosphere approximately every 90 seconds.

Versions

The 2027 GLS range at Mercedes-Benz Rive-Sud includes two core variants. The GLS 450 4MATIC serves as the entry point with its 3.0 L six-cylinder engine, standard AIRMATIC suspension, MBUX Superscreen, DIGITAL LIGHT headlamps, and seating for up to seven. The GLS 580 4MATIC adds the 4.0 L V8 and makes optional the E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL suspension system and the MBUX high-end rear seat entertainment — two 11.6-inch full HD displays in the rear with individually configurable MBUX remote controls. The MANUFAKTUR personalization program is available on both trims, offering exclusive exterior colours, leather upholsteries, and interior trim combinations for buyers who want a fully individualized vehicle.
