The new Mercedes-AMG GT SUV promises up to 1,153 horsepower
October 20 2026,
Mercedes-AMG is certainly no stranger to performance SUVs, but this time, the approach is different. Rather than taking an existing Mercedes-Benz model and developing a sportier version, AMG is now introducing an SUV designed entirely by its own teams.
The new Mercedes-AMG GT SUV will be exclusively electric and will share its AMG.EA architecture with the four-door AMG GT. Three versions will be available, with outputs reaching up to 1,153 horsepower. Mercedes-Benz Rive-Sud invites you to discover this vehicle, which offers a fresh perspective on performance SUVs.
A different shape with a clear family resemblance
The Mercedes-AMG GT SUV borrows several styling elements from the new four-door GT, particularly at the front and in its taillights. Its wider fenders and more substantial rear end give it distinct proportions, while an active spoiler is integrated into the roofline.
On a performance vehicle, aerodynamics do more than reduce air resistance. They also help manage the forces acting on the body at high speeds. An active component offers more flexibility than a fixed spoiler, since its position can change as needed.
Three levels of performance
The announced lineup includes the Mercedes-AMG GT 53, GT 55 and GT 63 SUVs. The first develops up to 536 horsepower, the second reaches 805 horsepower, and the third raises maximum output to 1,153 horsepower.
The GT 53 uses two electric motors. The GT 55 and GT 63 instead feature three axial-flux motors, including two at the rear. The GT 63 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds, or 2.5 seconds when the first foot of travel is excluded from the measurement.
Having multiple motors does more than increase power. It also allows power to be distributed more precisely between the wheels. With two independent rear motors, their respective contributions can be varied, helping control the vehicle’s handling through corners.
A 106 kWh battery equips the GT 53, while the GT 55 and GT 63 offer an optional 128 kWh battery. Depending on the battery selected, the announced maximum charging power reaches 600 or 710 kW.
A suspension that keeps body movements in check
The AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL+ system limits the vehicle’s lean through corners, as well as forward and backward body movements during braking and acceleration. This helps keep the vehicle more stable while preserving passenger comfort. The system is standard on the GT 63 and optional on the GT 55.
The vehicle also benefits from rear-wheel steering. At low speeds, the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction to the front wheels to make manoeuvring easier. At higher speeds, they turn in the same direction to improve stability.
An interior that follows the GT tradition
Inside, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster is paired with a 14-inch central display angled toward the driver. A passenger display is available, while the rear bench provides three seats and folding backrests.
Mercedes-AMG also offers a sound experience that reproduces the sound of a V8. Despite its electric powertrain, the GT SUV will therefore retain an acoustic character associated with the brand’s models.
