The 2027 GLC introduces the first application of a redesigned grille that becomes the new face of the brand. The grille wears a wide chrome frame with a smoked-glass mesh texture, and an optional illuminated version adds 942 backlit points that can animate as the vehicle is unlocked. Pronounced wheel arches and a sculpted shoulder line carry the silhouette from front to rear, while wheels are available up to 21 inches. Flush door handles paired with standard KEYLESS-GO and HANDS-FREE ACCESS keep the exterior clean and low-maintenance through Quebec’s slush and salt season.

At the back, two-piece taillights built around a star motif can be set to animate alongside the grille when the vehicle unlocks or begins charging. A two-piece roof spoiler with a black lip adds visual height, and a panoramic roof comes standard, with an optional SKY CONTROL version offering switchable glass across nine individually controlled zones. The wheelbase grows by roughly 79 mm over the gasoline-powered GLC, part of how the electric model finds its added cabin space.

Interior

Inside, the cabin follows Mercedes-Benz’s Sensual Purity design direction, with the instrument panel and centre console shaped into one continuous piece. An optional all-new seamless MBUX Hyperscreen spans 39.1 inches, described by Mercedes-Benz as the largest continuous screen the brand has built. Ambient lighting frames the upper edge of the dashboard and ties the doors and instrument panel together visually, while a dedicated app lets occupants choose from a range of background display styles. Cargo space totals 569 L in the trunk, expanding to 1,739 L with the rear seats folded, plus a 127 L front trunk that opens electrically at a touch of the star badge.

The GLC 400 4MATIC pairs a rear electric drive unit with a two-speed transmission to a front drive unit connected through a disconnect clutch, forming the 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system. The rear motor uses a permanently excited synchronous design developed in-house by Mercedes-Benz, contributing to 483 hp of output. The 94-kWh lithium-ion battery uses silicon oxide anodes for improved energy density, and preliminary estimates put driving range at more than 640 km on the European test cycle, with top speed electronically limited to 200 km/h.

The 800-volt electrical architecture supports DC fast charging at up to 330 kW, recovering up to 300 km of range in roughly ten minutes. A standard multi-source heat pump draws waste heat from the drive units, battery, and ambient air to keep the cabin comfortable through Quebec winters while limiting the energy drawn from the battery. Braking is handled by a new One-Box system that pairs regenerative and hydraulic braking under one consistent pedal feel, with four selectable recuperation levels.

Technology

The 2027 GLC runs on the Mercedes-Benz Operating System, MB.OS, which the automaker describes as processing 254 trillion operations per second and learning driver preferences over time through cloud-connected updates. The fourth-generation MBUX system integrates AI from ChatGPT-4o, Microsoft Bing, and Google Gemini through a Multi Agent Approach, letting the MBUX Virtual Assistant answer navigation questions, general knowledge questions, and vehicle-specific questions in the same conversation. Navigation is built on Google Maps, with an optional MBUX Augmented Reality Head-Up Display projecting route guidance onto the road ahead.

Driver assistance is handled by the MB.DRIVE suite, which draws on up to ten external cameras, five radar sensors, and twelve ultrasonic sensors. Distance Assist DISTRONIC comes standard, while MB.DRIVE ASSIST, MB.DRIVE ASSIST PLUS, and MB.DRIVE PARKING ASSIST 360 are available depending on trim. Eleven airbags, a standard centre airbag, and the PRE-SAFE preventive protection system round out the safety package, alongside a high-voltage protection system built specifically for the electric drivetrain.
