2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE vs. 2020 BMW X5

High-end German vehicles are considered so ingenious as they embody craftsmanship, precision and meticulousness. They are designed through brilliance, keen intelligence and deep experience. The fourth generation 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE is a step further in this direction, and the German automaker is unveiling it for all to see.

While the 2020 Mercedes-Benz models are all high-tech vehicles, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE stands out not only from other Mercedes-Benz models, but also from its competitors, such as the Lexus RX, the Audi Q7, the Range Rover Sport, the Volvo XC90 and the BMW X5. In an effort to prove this, Mercedes-Benz Rive-Sud, in the borough of Greenfield Park, near Brossard and just minutes from Montreal, conducted a comparison match between the 2020 GLE and BMW’s X5 to better highlight the characteristics of both.

2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE or BMW X5?

First of all, one might think that there are zero or very few differences between the two vehicles, as they are made in the same country. Yes, all German vehicles are conceived by the smartest automotive brains in the world, but they are not all created equal. Nearly 7,500 Mercedes-Benz GLE were sold in 2018, placing it well ahead of BMW’s X5. The GLE also ranked higher than its rival on Canada’s top 12 most popular luxury vehicles list, which was strangely won by a Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

When we compare the most advanced models, including the all-new GLE 63 4Matic AMG with 577 horsepower and 561 lb-ft of torque, the BMW M50i X5 can’t unseat its rival with 523 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque, despite the manufacturer’s newest additions to the lineup. In addition, while the X5 comes in four powerful models, the 2020 GLE comes in five distinct and very powerful versions including the all-new Mercedes-Benz GLE 63 4Matic AMG. While there is plenty of variety between the two manufacturers, the fact remains that Mercedes-Benz seems more innovative and offers a greater range of models that are likely to meet the needs of a select clientele—those who aspire to great performance, luxury and comfort. This can only be offered by company that’s been in business for 94 years now!

Compared to BMW’s X5 model, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE performs better on the road thanks to a variable E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL suspension, a world first in the automotive industry that gives it superior flexibility and handling, allowing the vehicle to adjust the suspension of each wheel according to driving conditions. This industry innovation results in greater handling efficiency in rough terrain, such as snow, mud and sand. The same can’t be said of the 2020 BMW X5 or any of its rivals.

Finally, the features and functions of the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE are superior to those of the X5, starting with the MBUX multimedia system which, thanks to artificial intelligence and several strategically placed microphones, makes it extremely easy to get the wealth of information just by saying “Hello Mercedes”, in addition to Apple CarPlay features and many other innovative connectivity options.

In short, both vehicles are luxurious and extra-comfortable, especially the 2020 GLE, with its breathtaking dashboard and built-in seat massage function for supreme comfort in a sublime interior. If we had to decide between the two vehicles, we’d say that the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE wins this match, for all the reasons mentioned and many more that we’ll leave up to future owners to discover.
